This training is designed for logistics & commercial departments of liquid bulk petrochemical companies but is very relevant to anyone active in the liquid bulk and chemical supply chain, including traders, shipping and logistics companies.

This course will take students through the petrochemical supply chain from production, commercial transactions to learning how to set up a reliable and sustainable supply chain using parcel tankers, tank terminals, barges, tank containers, flexitanks, drums and IBCs.  We will also look at best practices and vetting.

We are here to share experience and help you to increase knowledge, improve cooperation, find synergies and make better commercial and logistics deals.

This is an interactive training involving participants with Q&A and exercises.

After completion participant will receive a certificate of participation and a printed syllabus with course material.

DAY 1:

Module 1: Petrochemical markets
-Introduction to petrochemical markets (history, production, major petrochemicals, use in daily life, understanding product flows)
-Commercial contracts (spot vs long-term, pricing methodology, incoterms, terms & conditions, typical nominations, letter of credit)
-Preparing your supply chain (timing, commercial contracts versus logistics contracts)

Module 2: Chemical parcel tankers
-Introduction to chemical parcel tankers (history, tankers by type & size, Marpol 73/78 & IBC Code)
-Chartering (time charter, spot, coa, brokers, charter party terms)
-Operational review (vessel scheduling, ship agents, tank cleaning, operations, BL, LOI, demurrage, product losses, risk assessment and vetting)
-Market Dynamics

DAY 2:

Module 3: Tank storage
-Introduction to tank terminals (history, type of terminals, loading & discharge interfaces, basic design, services, challenges).
-Contracting (contract types, captive versus traders approach)
-Operational review (handling in and out, inventory management, product losses, risk assessment and audit)
-Market dynamics

Module 4: Secondary distribution
-Introduction to secondary distribution (logistics services, forwarding, drums, IBCs, tank containers, flexitanks, barging)
-Commercial review (freight, leasing, benefits, capacity per unit)
-Operational review (selection, compatibility, product losses, BL, LOI, repositioning, recycling & disposal, risk assessment & vetting)
-Market dynamics

Module 5: Setting up a sustainable supply chain
-Supply chain control (lower inventory, reduce working capital, shorten delivery times, reduce logistics costs with product swaps)
-Transport and hub selection (selection criteria, making correct cost comparisons, risk review)
-Conclusion (putting it all together, SWOT, Five Forces)

Module 6: HSEQ
-Basic introduction to HSEQ (safety culture, safety management systems, crisis response, crisis communication, contingency planning)
